Cyndi Lauper's Glamorous New Musical Kinky Boots Struts Onto Broadway

Welcome to the Land of Lola! The fabulous new Broadway musical Kinky Boots, starring Billy Porter and Stark Sands, begins previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 3. Featuring music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Harvey Fierstein and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots officially opens on April 4.

Based on the 2005 film and inspired by a true story, Kinky Boots follows Charlie Price (Sands), an aspiring young businessman who, after the death of his father, is forced to give up his dreams of living in London in order to save his family’s fledgling shoe factory in Northern England. Charlie finds inspiration in Lola (Porter), a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. As the unlikely pair works to turn the factory around, they find they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible.

Kinky Boots co-stars Annaleigh Ashford and Celina Carvajal. The creative team includes scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Kenneth Posner, sound designer John Shivers and hair designer Josh Marquette. The musical held a pre-Broadway run this October at Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre.
